Objectives and competences

• Knowledge of advanced computer integrations in production. • Knowledge of the building blocks of modern integrated processing systems: machine tools, measuring machines, robots, transport devices, serving devices. • Knowledge of information and communication technologies relevant to the integration of manufacturing systems. • Knowledge of automatic tagging and object identification. • Knowledge of the content, construction and use of databases. • Understanding the operation and application of machine vision for quality control, measurement, and automatic defect detection. • Knowledge of the fundamentals of predictive analytics and the use of artificial intelligence methods for predicting tool wear, failures, or deviations in production. • Development of analytical thinking and the ability to connect data technologies with real technological challenges. • Ability to work independently and in teams on designing solutions for supporting and optimizing machining systems.

Content (Syllabus outline)

• Introduction to Integrated Manufacturing Systems Automation and integration of manufacturing systems. • Information in manufacturing systems. • Communication in manufacturing systems. • Integration of material flows and transport systems into manufacturing systems. • Integration of information and systems into manufacturing systems. • Databases in integrated manufacturing systems. • Computer supported technologies; development, advantages, influences on manufacturing systems. • Computer based capturing, supervision and analyse of information of state and activity of manufacturing system. • Machine vision in manufacturing systems. • Predictive Analytics in Integrated Manufacturing Systems. Exercises and seminar: Exercises supplement lectures with practical examples of creation of technological database. Seminar work includes in-depth revive of selected sections.

At the end of this course, students will: • explain the integration of manufacturing systems • analyze the operation of machining lines, machining centers and machining cells • use machine vision in manufacturing systems • analyze the use of digital technologies in manufacturing systems • explain and evaluate different technologies of automatic marking and identification in manufacturing systems • explain and evaluate the use of information and communication technologies in manufacturing systems

• Knowledge of design of more integrated manufacturing systems. • Knowledge of structure and operation of production information systems. • Experience with integrated CAD/CAM system and database. • Knowledge of PLM systems.
