Objectives and competences

To be familiar with the corpus terminology and language structures, typical for specific language purposes. To know and use the strategies of reading comprehension, to use written and oral skills for communication in professional field and in everyday situations. Find data, information and content through a simple search in digital environments, e.g. e-dictionary Identify simple referencing practices. Choose simple digital tools and technologies for collaborative processes.

Content (Syllabus outline)

- German terminology in mechanical engineering (technical texts, papers and articles, technical reports, diagrams) - Passive Voice - Basic mathematical and physical terms - Machines: definition, engine parts (e.g. car-internal combustion engine, strokes, diesel: gasoline, hybrid vehicles, efficiency, alternative fuels) - Alternative energies (environment pollution, global warming, solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy, geothermal energy) - Difference between mechanical engineer and scientist - Most important inventions - Programmes and courses at FS - Scientific titles and CV - Writing letters and application forms - Describing objects: tool, machine, device, mechanism - Presentation of a product, machine and project. - Definition, consists of-material, main parts, functioning, advantages and disadvantages - Practice in all linguistic skills (listening, understanding, speaking, writing)

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Students will be able to use technical terminology in German language. They will understand German technical texts, audio and video recording in German language. They will be able to write a technical text, their CV and job application in German language. They will be able to describe diagrams and use the basic mathematical and physical concepts in German language.
