Objectives and competences

• Ability to build the concept of product design independently, from hands-free sketching to realistic rendering in a virtual environment; • understanding the importance of virtual rendering and tracking user needs; • ability to critically evaluate the quality of realistic rendering.

Content (Syllabus outline)

The content of lectures, seminars and tutorials is intertwined and complementary, with the lectures being merely support for other practical forms of work. This is also the reason why theoretical examination is not envisaged. Topics covered relate to: • basics of "design sketching"; • basics of computer graphics with emphasis on shading (illumination) methods of 3D objects; • use of computer software tools, equipment, procedures, working methods, techniques in product design; • use of 3D software tools Rhinoceros, SolidWorks, Fusion for the conceptual modelling and realistic rendering with dedicated renderers; • using 2D software tools: CorelDraw, Photoshop to empower realistic virtual renderings; • basics of 3D digitization of physical models and preparation of point cloud visualization; • performing 2D and 3D tasks by the list; • creating a complex 3D object in appropriate software environment; • virtual presentation of the concept.

Learning and teaching methods

lectures dialogue practical experience connecting theoretical knowledge and experimental experience

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: • independently present the concept of a new product with hands-free sketches and a virtual presentation; • explain and justify the choice of virtual rendering process in the specific case; • critically evaluate the quality of a virtual product presentation; • determine the key boundary conditions of the virtual presentation.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

Skills for 2D and 3D softwares usage Better understanding of 2D and 3D space and solids
