Objectives and competences
To enable students to acquire basic knowledge of private security and get insight into development of a system of legal regulation of private security in RS and EU. After taking the course, students should be able to evaluate critically the operation of non-state actors in the field of security of individuals, groups and society, and to analyze the relations between state and non-state security organizations. Students learn also on modern technical means used in private security and private detective activity.

- Measures, rights and duties of security officers
- Entitlements of private detectives
- Cooperation between police and private security
- Oversight over private security
- Cross-border operation of private security companies and private detectives
- Private security in the European union – legal framework and practical aspects
- Professional interest groups in the field of private security in RS and Europe (ZRSZV, DeZRS, Coess, EOS, ECSA, IKD)
- Basics of technical security: mechanical security, electronic surveillance systems, technical standards
Learning and teaching methods
The course will consist of lectures, discussions and tutorials. It also includes flipped learning, problem-based learning, inquiry-based learning, role-play learning, and experiential learning.
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
The course is designed to provide understanding and utilization of theoretical and practical concepts in the field of organization and implementation of private security as additional/complementary security provider in contemporary society.
Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes
Through classes and tutorials, the course enables students to develop skills necessary for planning, organization, implementation and analyzing of work in the field of private security and private detective activity.
