Objectives and competences
Students will:
• Learn about nursing care of healthy and sick children and role of a nurse in the process of paediatric treatment.
• Acquire knowledge of evidence based nursing interventions and diagnostic therapevtic procedures in children and adolescence nursing care.
• Deepens knowledge on analysis and planning of the needs in paediatrics nursing care for individuals and groups.
• Improve skills for successful therapeutic communication with children, parents and members of health and nursing team.
• Acquire knowledge for seeking creative solutions for nursing problems in the process of nursing care.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
The student will be able to:
• perform holistic and individual child and family centre healthcare,
• develop therapeutic communication and caring human relations – caring for child and family,
• perform diagnostic, therapeutic, and other nursing interventions in the field of paediatrics nursing care based on ethical principles,
• recognize, assess and respond appropriately to emergency conditions in children,
• search, analyse, interpret literature for development of case study,
• specify the most common pediatric diseases, their clinical characteristics, and diagnostic procedures.

• Critical literature review and searching for evidence to support safe nursing process of the child,
• use modern technology in paediatrics,
• perform diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and nursing procedures,
• reporting (oral and written),
• identification and solving problems,
• critical analysis, synthesis, response on the literature for evidence base in practice,
• leading and working in teamwork.

Prerequisits
Prerequisits for laboratory work in simulated clinical environment : pozitive grade from seminar work and case study.
The implementation of the learning unit includes recording nursing activities for the purpose of promoting critical thinking, reflection and problem solving.

Laboratory work
Assessment of laboratory work in a simulated clinical environment includes
- Assessment of practical and theoretical knowledge (nursing procedures and diagnostic and therapeutic interventions).
Performance on the course is based on a minimum of 55% in the written examination.
Each part of the mark must be passed (6).
