Objectives and competences

Student will: • learn about the development and importance of research in nursing care and evidence-based practice and its development, • understand the basics of qualitative and quantitative research methods, • understand the basics of evidence-based nursing, • formulate an appropriate research question based on research problem, • learn how to design a research proposal for empirical research, • learn about basic statistical analysis of quantitative data, • learn about the basic analysis of qualitative data.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Development and importance of research in nursing care. • Fundamental paradigms. • Qualitative research methodology and methods. • Quantitative research methodology and methods. • Basics of research. • Basic statistic data analysis. • Literature search and citation. • Basics of evidence-based practice. • Evidence-based nursing practice process.

Learning and teaching methods

Blended learning with elements of flipped learning and gamification, work in groups, individual form of work, method of explanation, conversation, and demonstration as well as reading and working with the text.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Students will be able to: • Explain the basics of development and the importance of research for evidence-based nursing care. • Explain the basics of quantitative and qualitative methodology and methods. • Describe the process of evidence-based nursing. • Explain phases of the research process and work and research plan. • Formulate research questions for selected research problem. • Conduct basic statistical analysis of quantitative data. • Conduct a basic analysis of qualitative data.

Prerequisits

There are no specific prerequisites. Attendance at lectures, seminars and laboratory work is verified by the student's signature. On-time submission of assignments according to the lecturers and within 30% is a prerequisite for admission to the examination.
