Objectives and competences
The student will:
? acquire basic knowledge in the field of mental health at local and global level,
? learn about the social determinants of mental health,
? get to know the risk factors for the stigma of mental disorders,
? understand the recovery process,
? get acquainted with the course of therapeutic communication, motivational interview and work with a person with a mental disorder,
? learned relaxation techniques.

Mental health in a global and local context; social determinants of mental health; stigma; recovery and rights based on mental health; therapeutic relationships; models of mental illness; psychosis; young people's mental health; physical health of people with serious mental illness; Working with the person experiencing suicidal thoughts; Cognitive behavioural therapy; Brief interventions and motivational interviewing; medication and medication adherence; risk; health promotion; communication skills; relaxation and stress management skills; service user experiences; working in partnership with service users; mental health associations

Knowledge and understanding:
On completion of this course the student will be able to:
? Critically discuss the key features of mental ill health and appropriate interventions including pharmacological and psychological.
? Analyse key concepts in mental health and their application to mental health care.
? Use different approaches in mental health careand mental health promotion.
? Demonstrate a critical understanding of the nature and application of the therapeutic relationship.
? Critically discuss the models of mental illness and their implications for the treatment and outcomes of care.
? Demonstrate understanding of the wider role of the nurse in supporting people to manage their mental and physical health.
