Objectives and competences

Student will: • be able to critically discuss about the nature of evidences and goal of evidence based nursing, • develop a comprehensive in-depth understanding of different systematic approaches to evidence synthesis. • be able to develop a comprehensive understanding and skills in critical appraisal of evidences concerning the specific research question and defining the EBN project, • be able to critically appraise quality of relevant evidences, • be able to critically analyse and synthesize of relevant evidences, • be able to critically interpret relevant scientific evidences, • be able to critically discuss about implementation of relevant evidences in nursing care practice, • be able to apply relevant evidence in nursing care practice.

Content (Syllabus outline)

• EBN method – systematic review. • PICOT model of asking specific clinical/research question. • Critical searching of relevant evidence according to the specific research question and EBN process. • Critical appraisal of validity, reliability and applicability of relevant evidence using critical appraisal tools • Evaluating and synthesising evidence using a rigorous and systematic approach. • Implementing the evidences and evaluation of outcomes with presentation of different evidence based nursing practice models. • Searching the evidence using 5S hierarchival structure.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Student: • Argues the EBN process and method, • Identifies the problem, the need for a change in clinical practice and formulate a PICOT question, • Determine the search strategy and find appropriate evidence according to the PICOT question, • Critically appraise validity, reliability and applicability of collected evidence using appropriate assessment tools, • Evaluate and synthesizes the collected evidence, • Develop a proposal for changes to clinical practice, • Evaluate the EBN project, • Distinguish between metasynthesis and meta-analysis.
