Objectives and competences
Student:
• knows and understands the special features of aging, how to prepare for age, and how age affects the family and society
• critically analyze and evaluate research in the field of gerontology nursing and care
• understands the importance of networking researchers in the gerontology field
• understand the methods used in the research on the care of elderly people, especially those with specific disorders
• design, implement and evaluate models of work with older people.

Key research and theoretical perspectives, which are based on modern approaches in gerontological nursing.
Analysis and evaluation of research in the field of nursing and elder care.
The situation in the field of residential care for the elderly in terms of domestic and international perspective .
Quality (concepts) and quality assurance in the field of elder care.
Research ethics and the social impact of the research in gerontology and older adults
Needs and priorities of older adults in the EU and the domestic environment.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
At the end of the course the students will be able to:
• elaborate review of the findings on the basis of domestic and foreign research in the field of gerontological nursing and care of older people,
• elaborate analysis and evaluation of research methods by examining the various states of older adults (eg. suffering from memory loss),
• elaborate on research and evidence-based proposal for monitoring a variety of conditions in older adults,
• assess the ethical aspects in gerontology nursing.

On the basis of gerotological nursing care
• ability for individual research and knowledge integration
• ability for problem based and evidence based research.
