Content (Syllabus outline)
Preparation of the PhD thesis is carried out as student’s individual work. At the beginning of study, the candidate agree on a research topic with the selected supervisor and select courses from areas within the proposed PhD thesis.
Topics may be issued by the supervisor within national and international projects, agreements of scientific and research work in clinical areas or proposed by student himself.
Supervisor guides the student through the PhD thesis research work.
The formal procedure for PhD thesis preparation and defence is regulated by the »Rules on PhD thesis preparation and defence at the University of Maribor«.
The preparation and defence of PhD thesis usually include the following activities of student:
• Problem formulation
• State-of-the-art of existing research and relevant literature
• Formation of the research hypotheses
• Definition of the research methods
• Timeline of project implementation
• Interpretation and critical evaluation of the results
• Preparation of written report
• Oral presentation of the work
Learning and teaching methods
- guidance and discussions between the mentor and the student about the content and progress of the work
- Preparation of PhD thesis and oral presentation
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
Knowledge and Understanding:
• In-depth management of knowledge and terminology in the specific field of PhD thesis,
• knowledge of systematics, the most pretentious methods and approaches of research and development work,
• ability of identification, formulation and solution of the most pretentious problems in the field of nursing care,
• ability to independently accomplish the research work, solve the professional problems,
• ability to lead and organize the team work,
• ability to efficiently present and interpret the work results,
• ability to develop new scientific methods.

Specifična strokovna in tekoča znanstvena periodika s predvidenega področja doktorata, ki jo študent po predhodnih navodilih mentorja poišče individualno.
Specific professional and current scientific periodical publication from the PhD thesis field, that student seeks individually based on supervisor previous instructions.

Prerequisits
Accomplishment of all obligations within study programme
Additional information on implementation and assessment PhD supervisors are as a rule lectures of Nursing care 3rd cycle Bologna Study Programme. PhD supervisor may also be other university teacher form Faculty of Health Sciences, other members of University of Maribor or other universities with faculty rank “assistant professor”, “associate professor”, “full professor” that fulfil criteria of Article 139 of Statute of the University of Maribor.
In the event of an interdisciplinary topic student may select co-supervisor. Potential co-supervisor is subject to the same conditions as supervisor.
