Objectives and competences

Student will be able: • Develop a knowledge base on the key factors in adolescent health globally • Develop an understanding of how gender, culture and socioeconomics affects adolescent health • Develop a skill set in how to undertake research with adolescents. • Develop a skill set around adolescent health service design and evaluation.

Content (Syllabus outline)

This course will explore the issues of adolescent health from a global perspecive, Students will explore the evidence base on key adolescent health issues and the strategies, policies and practices designed to address them.The course will enable students to understand the social and economic drivers and influences on adolescent health and also learn the imporance of involving adolescents in research and service design.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

on completion of this course the student will be able to: • Understand and critique the global health challenges for adolescents • Understand and critique the types and effectiveness of adolescent health interventions – in particular, gender, mental health, sexual health, and substance misuse • Develop an awareness of research methods in adolescent health and the techniques for involving adolescent stakeholders in research • Understand the economic, social and cultural determinants in adolescent health • Understand and critique methods and principles in the design and evaluation of adolescent health services
