Objectives and competences
Student will be able:
• understand of the genetic risk factors for complex diseases.
• Conduct a literature search and critically evaluate the published results, as well as public health importance.
• Design a population based policy, program, project, or intervention with regard to genetic screening.
• Advocate for attention to ethical and moral implications of genomics in Public Health.
• Create educational material appropriate for the general public about the benefits and risks of direct to consumer genetic testing.

Introduction to Genetics in Public Health.
Genetic Epidemiology:

Pharmacogenomics.
Newborn Genetic Screening.
Cancer Genetic Screening.
Genetic Testing, new techniques.
Polygenic Testing for Complex Diseases (SNP testing) and cancer risk assessment.
Direct to Consumer Genetic Testing (DTC).
Ethical issues in genetics in public health.
