Objectives and competences

Students will be able to: • Understand the developmental, psychological, and social factors that influence mental health in children and adolescents. • Identify common mental health disorders in children and adolescents, their symptoms, and diagnostic criteria. • Evaluate evidence-based interventions and therapeutic approaches for treating mental health disorders in this population. • Analyze the impact of family, school, and community environments on the mental health of children and adolescents. • Conduct advanced research related to child and adolescent mental health, applying appropriate methodologies and ethical considerations. • Formulate policies and programs aimed at improving mental health outcomes for children and adolescents.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

The student knows: - Critically analyze the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social developmental stages of children and adolescents and their impact on mental health. - Examine the role of family, caregivers, and social environments in promoting mental well-being throughout childhood and adolescence. - Accurately identify the signs and symptoms of common mental health disorders in children and adolescents, applying diagnostic criteria. - Evaluate and apply evidence-based psychotherapeutic, pharmacological, and community-based interventions for children and adolescents with mental health disorders. - Utilize standardized assessment tools to conduct mental health evaluations, risk assessments, and behavioral screenings for children and adolescents. - Interpret assessment data to develop appropriate interventions and monitor progress over time. - Lead multidisciplinary care teams in managing complex mental health cases, ensuring a coordinated approach to treatment and support.
