Objectives and competences

On completion of this module students will be able to: - be familiar with and understand the basic concepts of public/mental health and related terms, - be familiar with the main public health challenges in the field of mental health, - be familiar with and understand the public health approach to mental health, - be familiar with and understand health promotion and all levels of prevention in the context of mental health, their practical application, and the planning of interventions, - be familiar with and understand mental health management and the functioning of mental health services.

Content (Syllabus outline)

? Basic concepts of public/mental health and related terms. ? Main public health challenges in the field of mental health. ? Public health approach to mental health ? Health promotion and all levels of prevention in the field of mental health. ? Mental health management with an emphasis on the Slovenian context (legal framework, strategic documents, etc.) and the functioning of mental health services (importance of intersectoral synergy and collaboration).

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

On completion of this course the student will: ? define and differentiate between key concepts and aspects of mental health, ? define and differentiate between health promotion and all levels of prevention in the field of mental health, and plan interventions, ? define and critically approach mental health management, ? orient themselves towards interdisciplinary action and collaboration with related scientific disciplines and various mental health services, ? critically approach the assessment and application of scientific and professional knowledge and approaches in the field of mental health.
