UM Doctoral Promotion Ceremony

The University of Maribor organizes doctoral promotion ceremonies four times a year, twice in winter, once in spring and once in autumn. If necessary, also more often. The exact date of the promotion is determined by the Rector in accordance with the UM Statute.

Doctoral promotion candidates must meet the conditions set out in article 157 of the UM Statute, as well as the criteria set out in article 30 of the Rules and Regulations on Doctoral Studies at the University of Maribor.

According to article 157 of the UM Statute, the Senate of the University of Maribor confirmed the interpretation that a summary of a publication in a foreign language in a publication that has all summaries in a foreign language means a longer summary (summary of at least 500 words), on the basis of which the doctoral dissertation is accessible to the world public.

The UM Senate adopted an authentic interpretation of Article 157 of the UM Statute, namely that "the second paragraph of Article 157 shall be interpreted together with the first paragraph of the same article in such a way that the doctoral candidate's findings must be published in a foreign language (except for national sciences) in a publication, published in EU or OECD countries, or in a publication that has all abstracts in a foreign language of an EU or OECD country, provided that the findings from the doctoral dissertation are available to the world scientific community through such publication."
