Criteria for enrolment into year 3: Students proceed into year 3 if they pass all exams from year 1 and collect at least 40 ECTS with passed exams from the year 2. Mandatory exams from the year 2 are: Studio I, Studio II, Architectural elements II.

Criteria for completing separate parts of a study programme

The programme does not include parts that can be individually completed.

Study advancement options

Graduates from the university degree study programme (first degree) are admitted to master's studies (second degree), according to the requirements established by the faculty offering post-graduate studies.

Employment possibilities

Graduates of university study programme architecture are capable to connect basic and specific knowledge with typical theoretical and practical fields, in combination with work and tasks in architectural and urban practice. During their study they gain specific skills in architecture including fundamental usage of planning methods of procedures and processes as well as creativity and innovation within interdisciplinary field of architecture and urbanism. Moreover, they get communicative skills which are necessary to perform professional duties in different environments. In the frame of specific competences, graduates win bases of construction planning and engineering economics which result in improving of engineering and aesthetic demands of building planning and their installation into space. Besides certain knowledge in the field of environment protection, the knowledge of urbanism elements and special planning is tightly connected with the goal of human needs on quality living. The interdisciplinary treatment of the problems on space and buildings will ensure the graduates professional competences for various jobs and tasks within designer organisations, construction and industry as well as in the field of public administration.

Assesment criteria

Regulations and syllabi provide for each study unit forms of evaluation and assessment. Instantaneous methods of knowledge evaluation and assessment are encouraged, enabling students to control their own study development.

Main study programme objectives

Fundamental programme goals of the study programme Architecture are: - To educate an expert in architecture according to the European guidelines and to provide an internationally comparable programme in order to enable the graduates further postgraduate studies in Slovenia and at institutions in Europe and worldwide, as well as to provide employment opportunities. - To offer specific knowledge and skills from architecture and spatial planning that the graduates enable to proceed their studies in postgraduate study programme architecture or related postgraduate programmes. Undergraduate programme Architecture connects knowledge from different areas of architectural design, urban and spatial planning that include: - gaining design and spatial planning skills by presentation techniques and designing, - gaining contents from natural sciences, engineering, humanism and sociology, history, art and environment protection, - knowledge in sociological basics of relations in the built environment and space (this helps to understand the profession of an architect and the role of an architect in the society) - suitable knowledge for problem solving in construction, technology and engineering, understanding of processes in construction industry and other companies, together with legislation and regulation (ability of realisation in practise), - holistic approach that enables qualification in architectural, urban and spatial design, in terms of aesthetics and engineering, based on understanding of history and architecture theory. The core of the undergraduate study programme lies in architectural design, to which other thematic areas are linked. The study offers wide scope of knowledge that follows integrative concept of connecting various fields in space and object design, including basics of landscape design, supported by project-oriented activities (Studios). In addition, the study programme comprises understanding of sociological basics, economic and other parameters that connect different disciplines and form design and construction processes.

General competences of graduates, gained at a study programme

In terms of general competences, students of university undergraduate study programme Architecture will gain: - general knowledge in natural sciences, basics of social and humanistic sciences, information science and communication skills, required to pursue an architectural profession - knowledge in basic competences of architectural discipline - creativity and innovation in design processes - ability to analyse, synthesize and predict solutions and results - proficiency in basics of research methods, procedures and processes, development of critical and self-critical evaluation - ability to use knowledge in practise - development of communicational skills in national and international environment -- ethical reflexion and commitment to professional ethics - cooperativity, team work in national and international environment.

Subject specific competences of graduates, gained on a study programme

In terms of course-specific competences, students of the university undergraduate study programme Architecture will gain: - ability to fulfil aesthetic and technical requirements of design and construction based on acquired fundamental knowledge in architectural and spatial design - ability to understand the history and theory of architecture and related arts and sciences - ability to understand artistic sciences and their influences on the quality of architectural design - ability to understand elements of urbanism in other activities of spatial design - ability to connect basics of engineering economics and problems of environmental protection with design of structures and construction products - ability to participate in the process of architectural design and in the performance control in terms of the independent technical evaluation based on scientific and professional analysis and synthesis - ability to understand the importance and needs of harmonious relationship between a human and built environment and between buildings and their environment in order to meet human needs and suitable measures - ability to understand elements of the architectural profession and its role in society - knowledge and understanding of the design of architectural structures and other engineering elements in planning - knowledge and understanding of engineering segments of technical performance of a building in order to meet the needs of the quality living - knowledge and understanding of the process of architectural design and construction in interdependence with the economical design solution - familiarity and understanding of synthesis knowledge that has a key impact on the process of the architectural design by mastering individual segments - knowledge and understanding of modular coordination - knowledge and understanding of historical development of architecture and arts - knowledge and understanding of spatial planning and urban design - knowledge and understanding of basics in protection of built environment. The graduates are able to: - solve individual (less demanding) problems in architectural and spatial design by means of research methods and procedures - cooperate in project technical architectural designs - perform individual (less demanding) duties in architectural design independently and creatively and perform particular activities in the project team - form proper project technical less demanding architectural and constructional details. Furthermore, students gain knowledge for: - communication in organization and with partners and clients - fundamental coherent proficiency in science (natural sciences, mathematics, informatics, mechanics, construction materials) and connecting and applying knowledge from different disciplines - usage of information-communication technologies and systems in their fundamental professional field - implementation of new information and interpretation in the context of their basic discipline - understanding of general structure of the fundamental discipline and connection between its sub-disciplines - development of skills to use their knowledge in the professional discipline.
