Objectives and competences

The course focuses on understanding and analyzing business ethics and organizational culture, exploring their impact on organizational operations, and establishing foundations for ethical behavior within the business environment through discussions on the significance of ethics and culture, various theoretical approaches, and their effects on organizational functioning. By acquiring knowledge in this area, students develop key skills such as communication, practical application of theoretical knowledge, creative exploration, and systemic thinking, enabling further independent education and professional development in the context of business ethics.

Learning and teaching methods

This course uses a range of teaching methods including lectures, discussion groups, videos and films, case studies, student presentation and independent study.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

In this course students: 1. They acquire general substantive and methodological knowledge about Business Ethics and Organizational Culture (PILO 1a), 2. They acquire general and specific knowledge about the use of Business Ethics and Organizational Culture in various organizations (PILO 2a), 3. They acquire general and specific knowledge about the treatment of individual specific areas of Business Ethics and Organizational Culture of organizations (PILO 2a), 4. Upgrade existing knowledge in the field of Business Ethics and Organizational Culture with specific knowledge about the sustainable and ethical behavior of companies and non-profit organizations (PILO 3a), 5. Systematically upgrade their substantive and methodological knowledge on the use of newer ethical and cultural concepts for solving ethical problems and ethical decision-making (PILO 3a), 6. Develop skills for independently and innovatively solving practical ethical and cultural problems of the operation and behavior of companies and non-profit organizations (PILO 3a, PILO 4a), 7. Develop knowledge and skills for complex analysis and critical assessment of individual ethical solutions, their application in practice and comprehensive presentation of their results (PILO 2c, PILO 4b), 8. Develop knowledge and skills for organizing responsible and ethical independent work and work in a group (in the role of leader or member) and develop appropriate communication skills for effective presentation of work ethics results (PILO 3c), 9. They develop knowledge and skills for understanding the use of digitization, automation, robotization and artificial intelligence in dealing with ethical and cultural issues, as well as critical assessment of the results of their ethical use in practice (PILO 3a) and 10. They develop the ability for comprehensive ethical, socially responsible and sustainable solving of complex practical problems in modern organizations (PILO 4b, PILO 4c). The PILO label (i.e., Programme Intended Learning Outcomes) defines the contribution of each listed intended learning outcome of a course towards achieving the general and/or subject-specific competencies or learning outcomes acquired through the programme.
