Objectives and competences
In this course students:
1. Examine the international tourism industry and travel, with a triple bottom line approach of economic, environmental and socio-cultural impact, which is underpinned by the principles of sustainability.
2. The course covers issues in tourism policy and planning - national, international (EU) and global.
3. Explore subjects such as positive and negative impact issues, restrictions on tourism development and contemporary tourism issues.

Development of knowledge and understanding
Students:
1. To enable students to gain an appreciation of the principal issues and trends regarding international tourism industry and travel.
2. Analyse the role and the importance of cultural diversity to the tourism industry.
3. Develop skills to review the gained results in tourism planning in a region/community.
4. Explain the impact of globalization on international tourism and culture.
5. Are able to critically evaluate the concept of sustainable tourism development and its effects on the planning and development process of tourism.

Students:
1. Synthesize knowledge in various fields in the analysis of problems in tourism industry - especially related disciplines such as anthropology, psychology, geography and environmental studies.
2. Ability to use different methods in tourism research and understand how to apply these methods for tourism research.
3. Knowledge of people, culture and tradition of foreign countries.
4. Identify key aspects of problem from different view points.
5. Ability to come up with new ideas and solutions.

Students:
1. Develop skills and abilities in the use of knowledge in tourism industry (supply side) and travel (demand side).
