Objectives and competences
In this course students:
1. Acquire basic knowledge on the structure, functioning and key trends in global economy:
key historical changes in the global economy, key actors of these changes and the importance of these changes for company’s operations,
regulatory instruments of international trade and investment flows and their consequences for companies’ business operations,
regional economic integrations, European Union's regulatory instruments of international exchange and their consequences for companies' international business operation
types and roles of international organizations, the elements and the importance of international competitiveness of economies for companies' international activities,
international trade flows and foreign direct investments of Slovenia as factors of Slovenian companies' global integration,
contemporary trends in international economy and their consequences for companies' operation (demographic trends, climate changes, geopolitical changes).
Content (Syllabus outline)
- the concept and the key agents of global economy; key trends in the global economy (factors and consequences of globalization, the role of multinational companies, high growth markets, geopolitical changes in the world, demographic changes in the world, environmental changes, technological development and digital society, multiculturality of countries etc.) and their consequences for companies;
- integration of countries into global economy (international trade, foreign direct investment) and its consequences for companies;
- World Trade Organization (WTO) and other governmental- and non-governmental international organisations and their roles;
- goals, forms and effects of regional economic integrations;
- the European Union (EU) and its key aspects of operation;
- international competitiveness and economic freedom of countries;
- Slovenia in the global economy (Slovenia in the WTO and in the EU, economic profile of Slovenia in the EU and in the global economy).

Development of knowledge and understanding
1. Acquire specific knowledge from the field of structure and functioning of global economy.
2. Learn to recognise systemic interconnections in the field of functioning of global economy.
3. Develop the skills for explaining the consequences of changes, regulation and institutional characteristics of the world economy for company’s operation.
Cognitive/Intellectual skills:
1. Get the ability to search for and synthesize new information from the field of changes, regulation and institutional characteristics of global economy in literature and practice.
2. Learn to synthesize different knowledge from the field of global economy and the importance of usage of professional literature from the discussed field.
3. Are capable to select appropriate techniques for problem solving and are able to estimate the importance and the characteristics of collected data from the field of global economy.

To obtain a grade in the course, it is compulsory to take all forms of assessment. A student obtains a pass mark in a course when both partial forms of assessment are passed.
