Objectives and competences

Introducing student into independent research work. Encourage the student to critically comprehend and reason about published scientific research and development achievements, and to interpret his/her findings for the researchers in the same field.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Scientific research work that encompasses initial aspects of research activities: identification of scientific problem, research of current state of the art, problem analysis. The seminar work covers the scientific research fields that are related to the student’s majors and research goals: • selection of a publication or a group of publications appropriate for scientific interpretation, • interpretation of the topic, keeping the critical distance, • connecting the ascertainments with valid beliefs and facts related to the discussed topic, • discussion on the scientific, research, professional, or methodological viewpoints of the selected problem, • preparation of concise written material and • public presentation which directs towards a broader and profound discussion with experts from the selected field.

• being able to analyse scientific research or professional work, • to compare and underpin or refute similar or opposite scientific or professional statements, • to express the concise view, • to clearly define the problem and initiate the discussion.

• to select, organise, and analyse the information from different sources, • to deliberate on the selected topic by keeping critical distance, • to express thoughts clear and concise, • to motivate discussion by the written and oral presentation.
