Objectives and competences
The objective of the course is for students to know the history and development of microelectronic circuits, from the invention of the transistor, till today. At the same time the students will get familiar with semiconductor basics and influence of the integrated circuits development of modern society.
Content (Syllabus outline)
• History of microelectronics
• Microelectronics trends and development of modern integrated circuits (IC)
• Semiconductor basics (properties, materials, doping, diode (PN junction), transistor)
• Process of design, manufacture, encapsulation, and testing of ICs
• Usage of integrated circuits in real applications
• Digital transformation: role and influence of integrated circuits
• Integrated circuits: strategic good of 21. century

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
Knowledge and understanding:
- Knowing the microelectronics field
- Understanding of semiconductor theory basics and basic semiconductor elements
- Knowing of basic design of modern embedded electronic circuits and their role in modern society
Key skills and other attributes:
- Communication skills: oral presentation of seminar work, knowing of specific microelectronics vocabulary.
