Employment possibilities
Master's degrees in nursing care in the field of emergency situations will be employable in pre-hospital (family medicine clinics, pre-hospital units, motor ambulance, helicopter emergency medical aid unit) and hospital environments (admission emergency department, intensive care and intensive care departments), as well as in combined emergency centers.
Subject specific competences of graduates, gained on a study programme
- Performing emergency measures in the event of cardiac arrest (in accordance with the applicable protocol).
- Recognizing basic life-threatening cardiac rhythm disorders (use of a monitor).
- Performing defibrillation (AED, manual defibrillator).
- Basics of ECG and recognizing acute coronary syndrome.
- Setting up a venous line, arterial line and using infusion fluids and using infusion pumps and perfusors, establishing an intraosseous line and assisting in setting up central venous lines.
- Application of adrenaline.
- Knowledge and use of medications in the field of emergency medical care.
- Airway care, aspiration and mechanical ventilation.
- Performing and participating in the performance of additional procedures to ensure a free airway (RSI, conicotomy, tracheostomy, laryngeal mask, laryngeal tube, I-gel).
- Independent oxygen administration (use of various devices).
- Recognition of possible causes of acute respiratory distress and care of a patient with acute respiratory distress.
- Comprehensive use of monitoring, knowledge and basic interpretation of the obtained values (e.g. ECG, SpO2, ETCO2, RR, TT, etc.).
- Recognition and appropriate measures in the event of sudden loss of consciousness, disturbances of consciousness and threatening neurological conditions.
- Recognition and appropriate measures in the event of sudden febrile states and in the event of convulsive disorders (epileptic seizure, status epilepticus, febrile convulsions in a child, etc.).
- Recognition and measures in the event of cerebrovascular or vascular symptoms (TIA, stroke, cerebral hemorrhage, DVT, phlebitis, embolism, aneurysm, thrombosis, dissection, etc.).
- Recognition of shock (types of shock) and immediate action in a shocked patient / injured person (clinical picture, monitoring, IV route, use of IV fluids, application of oxygen, if necessary, application of appropriate therapy...).
- Appropriate recognition and action in the event of various poisonings (evacuation, history, clinical picture, use of antidotes, communication with the poison control center, etc.).
- Recognition and implementation of appropriate safety measures in the event of urgent infectious conditions (individual and mass isolation, protection of healthcare workers).
- Approach to the injured person in the field and determination of the severity of the injury according to the ITLS and ATLS system.
- Recognition and assessment of the level of head injury and appropriate action and observation of the injured person.
- Recognition and action in injuries to the chest and abdomen.
- Recognition and (co-)care of injuries to the extremities and spine.
- Implementation of immobilization with modern devices with knowledge of the indications.
- Application of ITLS and ATLS principles in the care of the injured person in the hospital.
- Recognition and action according to the principles of the algorithm in acute chest pain, acute dyspnea, acute abdominal pain and acute disturbance of consciousness.
- Recognition and action in various emergencies in gynecology and obstetrics.
- Recognition and action in emergencies in adults, newborns, infants and children in the fields of emergency medicine, surgery, internal medicine, infectious diseases, psychiatry, neurology and anesthesiology.
- Performing triage when receiving patients in the emergency center.
- Performing special tasks in the case of mass accidents according to guidelines (primary triage in the field, coordination of transport, management of the intervention. Triage in the hospital, participation in management and decision-making).
- Performing interventions in the stabilization of a patient at risk (NGS, TUK in both sexes, arterial line, needle thoracentesis).
- Knowledge and use of ultrasound in diagnostic and therapeutic measures (venous route, TUK, arterial line, use of ultrasound during resuscitation, ...)
- Implementation of dispatching services (call reception, team allocation, crisis communication, cooperation with emergency services).
- Knows the organization of the Emergency Medical Service and distinguishes between organizational models of the Emergency Medical Service in our country and in the world.
- Knows the rights and obligations of healthcare workers in performing their activities.
- Knows the most common emergency conditions in the elderly in palliative care and the basic principles of their pathophysiology, diagnostics and treatment
