The second level study program of Art Pedagogy was first accredited on 17 June 2010.

Study advancement options

Graduates may continue their studies in 3rd level study programs.

Employment possibilities

The graduate of the 2nd level study program is qualified for independent management of subjects in the field of fine arts in primary and secondary schools. The graduate may also realize and excel in other professions, which require the ability of visual perception, the ability to create art and knowledge of artistic skills and techniques.

Main study programme objectives

The main objective of the program is to educate a broad-minded graduate: - who will be equipped with all the necessary general and special knowledge, skills and abilities, so that as a teacher they can meet the requirements of modern primary education at the class level in presenting content related to fine arts, - who will be creative in solving the problems found in various complex and unpredictable situations brought about by the educational process, - who will be able to substantiate their pedagogical and didactic decisions and procedures with rational, professional and research-based arguments, - who will be employable.

General competences of graduates, gained at a study programme

The general competencies of the graduate of the 2nd level study program of Art Pedagogy will be: - in-depth ability to analyse, synthesize and anticipate solutions and consequences, - thorough mastery of research methods, procedures and processes, - ability to use knowledge effectively in practice, - development of critical and self-critical judgment, - autonomy in professional work, - communication skills, in particular communication in an international environment, - ethical reflection and commitment to professional ethics, - cooperation, effective group work (and in the international environment), - initiative/ambition, the value of continuous personal and professional advancement.

Subject specific competences of graduates, gained on a study programme

The 2nd level postgraduate study program will educate a candidate who will have the following subject-specific competencies: - thorough knowledge and understanding of justifications (justification) and history (development) of educational systems, - in-depth ability to solve concrete pedagogical problems using scientific methods and procedures, - coherent mastery of basic knowledge, ability to integrate knowledge from different fields and applications, - ability to place new information and interpretations in the context of education, - thorough understanding of the general structure of education and the connection between its subdisciplines (curricular theories, special pedagogical knowledge ...), - in-depth understanding and application of methods of critical analysis and development of theories and their use in solving concrete pedagogical problems, - development of skills in the use of knowledge in the field of education, - effective use of information and communication technology and systems in the field of education, - thorough knowledge and understanding of developmental characteristics, differences and needs of students in the first two educational periods of primary school and identification of learning abilities and problems, holistic understanding of the child, - organizational and managerial skills in education; - knowledge of social systems, especially processes in education; - knowledge of institutional frameworks (requirements, legislation, documentation needs, legal aspects of educational work), - aesthetic sensitivity and ability to work actively and creatively in artistic fields; - thorough knowledge and understanding of the didactic characteristics of teaching in the first two educational levels of primary school in the field of Slovene, mathematics, science, technology, social sciences, sports education, art education, music education and the ability to link them, - assistance in the pedagogical guidance of an individual, department and/or group; - adapting educational approaches to the individual, social, linguistic and cultural diversity of students, - participation in extended primary school programs (e.g. extended stays, clubs, school networks ...), - creating a stimulating learning atmosphere, interpersonal relationships and effective resolution of disciplinary problems. Competences are a taxonomic upgrade of competencies acquired by a student in the 1st level university study program of Art Pedagogy. Acquisition of the above gives the graduate competencies for independent work in the classroom.

Access requirements

Those who have completed the 2nd level study program of Art Pedagogy may enrol in: 1. First level study program in the relevant professional fields: Art pedagogy (0114) in the amount of 240 ECTS. 2. First level study program in the following professional fields: Fine Arts (0213) in the amount of 180 ECTS. Prior to enrolment, a student must complete the following obligations: a preparatory year in the amount of 60 ECTS. Prior to enrolment, a student can also complete obligations in advanced training programs. 3. First level study program from other professional fields: Fine Arts (0213) in the amount of 240 ECTS. Prior to enrolment, a student must complete the following obligations: a preparatory year in the amount of 45 ECTS. Prior to enrolment, a student can also complete obligations in advanced training programs. Candidates who have completed equivalent comparable education abroad and enrol under the same conditions as candidates who have completed their education in Slovenia also meet the conditions for enrolment. Before enrolling in a study program, they must complete the process of recognizing their education for the purpose of continuing their studies.

Selection criteria in the event of limited enrolment

The Faculty adopts a decision on the restriction of enrolment if the number of applicants who meet all the general enrolment conditions significantly exceeds the number of available study spots. When selecting candidates for enrolment in the 2nd level study program of Art Pedagogy, the success of the first level study is taken into account (average grade: 100 %).

Criteria for completing the study

A student has completed their studies after completing all obligations defined by the study program, writing and successfully defending their master’s thesis, thus collecting a total of 60 ECTS.
