Text about acceptance

The study programme was confirmed by the Senate of the Faculty of Organizational Sciences at the University of Maribor, on September 20, 2005 and the Senate of the University on September 27, 2005. The Council for Higher Education of the Republic of Slovenia gave consent to the study programme on September 30, 2005. The study programme was in the course of the accreditation renewal procedure validated September 20, 2011, by the University of Maribor, Senate of the Faculty of Organizational Sciences Kranj, and, after that, September 30, 2011, by the Senate of the University of Maribor, the decision about the study programme accreditation renewal was granted by the Council of the Slovenian Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (SQAA) as of August 30, 2012.

Advancement criteria of a study programme

Conditions for progression to the 2nd year: a student advances into 2nd year, if he has collected at least 40 ECTS credits with the obligations of the 1st year that he completed. Conditions for progression to the 3rd year: a student advances into 3rd year, if he has completed all obligations of the 1st year (collected 60 ECTS) and has collected at least 45 ECTS credits in the 2nd year.

Criteria for completing separate parts of a study programme

At the moment, the 1st-Cycle Professional study programme does not include parts which can be completed singly.

A graduate may continue studies at: - the 2nd-cyclel Master's study programme

Methods of testing knowledge are defined in the each individual course syllabus.

Main study programme objectives

The main objective of Organization and Management of Information Systems study programme is to equip graduates for starting careers in the field of Information Systems by developing useful technical, analytical, communication and leadership (managerial) competencies. Students will evolve competencies of a team member and an independent associate able to fill typical roles for a higher professional graduate student in the field of IT and organization programme. The study programme is focused on the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for the operation of the information system and the application development with advanced tools in companies of different industries and sizes, as well as in public and state sector. During their studies, students become acquainted with different work environments and problem-solving practices related to the development, operation and maintenance of information systems.

Subject specific competences of graduates, gained on a study programme

After completed studies, the graduate is capable of managing the business processes in an organization from the organizational-informational aspect with the purpose of improving the business aspect of organization and increasing its effectiveness and competitiveness. During the studies, the graduate obtains the following knowledge and skills: provide ICT support for end users and present ICT solutions to customers, process analysis for assessing IT needs and requirements, implement software solutions and train end users to use software solutions effectively, design and develop databases, manage existing databases, manage information technology, develop and select software solutions, participate in design and installation of architectures and information systems, analyze data with modern tools for solving typical problems in companies, public and state sector, develop simple software and use development tools, communicate with technical and business professionals for mapping end-user needs into well-defined requirements, understand business problems and find appropriate solutions using information technology. apply and implement different standards in the field of information systems, introduce, use and maintain cybersecurity tools and procedures; and lead teams of different profiles in information system development projects.

Access requirements

In the 1st-cycle professional higher study programme Organization and management of information systems anyone can enrol who has completed the final exam in any four year high school programme, vocational matura or matura.

Selection criteria in the event of limited enrolment

If the Decision of Limited Enrolment is adopted, the candidates will be selected according to: - The overall achievement at the final examination, vocational matura or matura: 60% of the points, - overall achievement in the 3rd and 4th year: 40% of the points.

Criteria for recognition of knowledge and skills, gained before the enrolment in the study programme

Criteria for recognition of knowledge and skills are regulated by Regulations on knowledge and skill recognition in study programmes of the University of Maribor.

Criteria for completing the study

A student completes the study programme when all obligations of the programme are fulfilled, when the diploma thesis is successfully defended and when at least 180 ECTS are collected altogether.
