Objectives and competences

In this course students: 1. upgrade their knowledge about standard topics of labour markets 2. upgrade their methodological knowledge with econometric analysis of specific characteristics of labour markets (usage of micro data) 3. know how to apply standard econometric approached used for labour market analysis

Content (Syllabus outline)

1. Labour market characteristics (labour demand, labour demand elasticity, labour supply, unemployment) 2. Labour market specifics (trade unions, minimum wage, wage differencials, migration, effects of international trade) 3. Education: investment in human capital 4. Characteristics of labour market econometric analysis 5. Application of regression analysis for labour markets 6. Application of dummy variables, logit and probit models 7. Application of duration models for unemployment duration analysis 8. Approaches evaluation policy measures in labour markets

Development of Knowledge and Understanding The learner: ? Knowledge base: has great depth and systematic understanding of labour market characteristics and its connection to the whole economy. ? Ethical issues: can analyse the ethical dilemmas by solving economic issues at the scientific level. ? Disciplinary methodologies: has a comprehensive understanding of empirical techniques for analysis of labour markets Cognitive and Intellectual Skills The learner: ? Analysis: with critical awareness, can undertake analysis, managing complexity, incompleteness of data or contradictions in the areas of labour market economics. ? Synthesis: can synthesize approaches and findings by forming scientific explanation. ? Application: can act independently and with originality in problem solving and is able to evaluate the role of empirical findings in labour market economics. Key / Transferable Skills The learner: ?
