Objectives and competences

The course introduces the students’ modern cognitions of Organization Theory about working and behavior of organizations in modern environment, and their application to business and non-profit organizations. The course provides students with additional knowledge and skills for cognition and use of newest achievements of Organization theory in their researching, and implementation of Organization theory' cognitions in researching of working and behavior of different sorts, types and kinds of organizations. Basic goals of course are: consideration of organizational working in modern organizations, consideration of organizational behavior in modern organizations, consideration of modern environment for organizations' working, and consideration of selected theoretical and methodological approaches for study of organizations' working and behavior. Realization of selected goals is possible on the base of cognition about role and importance of: 1) Organizational working – e.g. importance of Organization theory for organizations, design of organizational structure, 2) Process designed organization, Organization of processes, and 3) Behavior of organization – e.g. Culture of organization, Organizational ethics. Course Organizational working and behavior presents continuation of the courses about Organization, Management and Organizational behaviour on University Program and Master's program and necessary base for their future interdependent research and consultant work on area of Organization.

Basic areas of course are: 1 Organizational working 1.1 Organizational Theory - What is Organization - The Evolution of Organization Theory - The Role of Organization Theory in Modern Society 1.2 Fundamentals of Organizational Structure - Starting points for creation of org. structure - Attributes of organizational structure - System of organizational structure - Methodology of creation of organizational structure 2 Organizational consideration of process oriented organization 2.1 Process oriented organization - Social viewpoint of process - Plans and procedures in process - Workflow of process 2.2 Organization of processes - Dynamics of processes - Change Management - Alternatives for process organization - Implementation of process improvement 3 Behavior of organization 3.1 Culture of organization - Theory of organization culture - Organization culture and business - Integral viewpoint of organization culture - Differential viewpoint of organization culture - Organization culture in business 3.2 2 Business Ethics - Foundations for consideration of organization’s ethics - Individual values and rights in organization’s ethics - Role and importance of ethics in organization’s working - Ethics and competition in organization’s working - Ethics and organization’s business government 4 Cases of best organizational practice.

Lectures, discussion groups, videos, case studies, students’ presentations and independent study of students.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Development of Knowledge and Understanding The learner ? Knowledge base: has great depth and systematic understanding of a substantial body of knowledge. Can work with theoretical / research knowledge at the forefront of the discipline at peer reviewed standards/ publication quality . ? Ethical issues: can analyze and manage the implications of ethical dilemmas and work pro-actively with others to formulate solutions. ? Disciplinary methodologies: has a comprehensive understanding of techniques / methodologies applicable to the discipline (theory or research-based). Cognitive and Intellectual Skills The learner: ? Analysis: with critical awareness, can undertake analysis, managing complexity, incompleteness of data or contradictions in the areas of knowledge. ? Synthesis: can synthesize new approaches, in a manner that can contribute to the development of methodology or understanding in that discipline or practice. ? Evaluation: has a level of conceptual understanding and critical capacities that allows independent evaluation of research, and methodologies. ? Application: can act independently and with originality in problem solving, is able to lead in planning and implementing tasks at a professional or equivalent level. Key / Transferable Skills The learner: ? Group working: can lead /work effectively with group. Can clarify task, managing the capacities of group members, negotiating and handling conflict with confidence. ? Learning resources: is able to use full range of learning resources. ? Self evaluation: is reflective on own and others’ functioning in order to improve practice. ? Management of information: can undertake innovative research tasks competently and independently ? Autonomy: is independent and self-critical as learner; guides and supports the learning of others and can manage own continuing professional development. ? Communication: can communicate complex or contentious information clearly and effectively to specialists / non-specialists. Can act as a recognized and effective consultant. ? Problem solving: can continue own professional study independently. Practical Skills The learner: ? Application of skills: can operate in complex and unpredictable / specialized environment with new knowledge. Has overview of the issues governing good practice. ? Autonomy in skill use: can act in a professional capacity for self / others, with responsibility and largely autonomously and with initiative in complex and unpredictable situations. ? Technical expertise: has technical mastery, performs smoothly with precision and effectiveness; can adapt skills and design or develop new skills / procedures for new situations.
