Objectives and competences

Main course objective is to acquaint students with concepts of contemporary world economic trends analysis, clarification of teoretical framework and in continuation its applicative use on different case studies and practical analysis of world economic trends.

Content (Syllabus outline)

The content of the course focuses on two areas that are meaningfully integrated into a useful whole. On the one hand, the student learns the most important concepts in international economics (world economic growth, prices, employment, commodity markets, international capital flows, production, investment, balance of payments, interest rates, country risk, etc.) and, on the other hand, the basic tools and instruments of economic analysis. The basic content is thus developed through concepts such as: the calculation of the main macroeconomic indicators, their meaning, functional dependencies, relativity analysis, international economic trends and the forecasting of economic trends. The course has a strong application orientation, since the content, although formally structured on theoretical foundations, gives priority to the discussion of practical examples and current developments in the dynamic global environment ('case studies'). Critical insights into the ethical, social and environmental aspects of the responsibilities of economic policy makers and economic operators are meaningfully integrated into the content.
