Objectives and competences

The course on Management of Programs and Projects provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic changes in the business environment and their impact on multiproject business operations and the development of projectization in modern organizations. Students develop skills for managing the environment of projects and programs of projects, utilizing information and communication technologies, and integrating projects into business strategies, with an emphasis on practical examples to develop analytical abilities.

Content (Syllabus outline)

- Changing business environment as a generator of multiproject business; - Projectification and its impact on business organization; - Portfolio of projects and program of projects; - Management of projects and program of projects; - Preparation for project start-up and optimization of start-up solutions; - Processes of project start-up, implementation start-up, and leadership and execution; - Types and functionalities of project offices / project management offices; - Integration of project and program of projects start-up into annual business plans; - ICT technology as support for management of projects and program of projects; - Examples of projects and program of projects from practice: R&D, regional development, construction, engineering, service activities, machine construction, healthcare, education, social activities, implementation of national development programs, etc.

Learning and teaching methods

- Interactive lectures with digital tools. - AV presentations with guest experts from the industry. - Discussion on case studies and real-world examples. - Practical work using software for managing a multiproject environment. - Group projects with research assignments.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Students in this course: 1. Understand the principles of managing multiple projects and projectization within modern organizations, while recognizing the impact of the dynamic business environment. (PILO 2a, 2c) 2. Demonstrate the ability to apply theories, models, and tools of project management in real-world situations, integrating projects into business strategies. (PILO 2a) 3. Develop skills in using modern digital and AI technologies to support the management and optimization of projects and programs. (PILO 3a) 4. Show the capability for critical evaluation and optimization of project initiation and implementation processes using advanced research methodologies. (PILO 1a) 5. Develop ethical thinking and principles of sustainable development in project and program management decisions, considering social responsibility. (PILO 4b, 4c) 6. Effectively communicate project plans, outcomes, and solutions, and defend them when necessary in a professional context. (PILO 3b) 7. Develop teamwork skills in managing projects for collaborative problem-solving. (PILO 3c) 8. Critically assess the role of ICT technology in improving outcomes of project and program management. (PILO 2a, 3a) 9. Integrate and apply knowledge from various sectors (e.g., construction, engineering, healthcare, education) for effective management of projects and programs. (PILO 2b) 10. Develop the ability to integrate project and program management processes into annual business plans, in line with strategic objectives. (PILO 3a) The PILO label (i.e., Programme Intended Learning Outcomes) defines the contribution of each listed intended learning outcome of a course towards achieving the general and/or subject-specific competencies or learning outcomes acquired through the programme.
