Objectives and competences

The course focuses on the understanding and analysis of business ethics and organizational culture, investigates their influence on the functioning and behavior of organizations, and forms the foundations for the development of ethical behavior of stakeholders in organizations in the business environment through a discussion of the importance of ethics and culture, various theoretical approaches and their influence. By acquiring knowledge in this area, students develop key skills such as communication, practical application of theoretical knowledge, creative research and systemic thinking, which enables them to further independent education and professional development in the context of organizational culture and business ethics.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Basic areas of course are: 1 Organization culture 1.1 Theoretical framework of culture 1.2 Theoretical framework of organization culture 1.3 Integrative consideration of organization culture 1.4 Management of organizational culture2 Conceptualization of organization culture 2.1 The influence of organizational culture on the performance and results of organizations 2.2 The influence of organizational culture on the behavior of organizations 2.3 Future development of organizational culture 3 Understanding Business ethics 3.1 Normative theories of business ethics 3.2 Descriptive theories of business ethics 3.3 Management of business ethics 4 Conceptualization of business ethics 4.1 Stakeholders and business ethics 4.2 Government, regulation, and business ethics 4.3 Future perspectives of business ethics 5 Consideration of examples of good cultural and ethical practices in organizations

Learning and teaching methods

This course uses a range of teaching methods including lectures, discussion groups, videos and films, case studies, student presentation and independent study.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

In this course students: 1. The student will use general content and methodological knowledge to address issues of Business Ethics and Organizational Culture (PILO 1a), 2. The student will use general and specific knowledge about Business Ethics and Organizational Culture in various organizations (PILO 2a), 3. The student will use knowledge from the field of Business Ethics and Organizational Culture to address specific issues of sustainable and ethical behavior of companies and non-profit organizations (PILO 3a), 4. The student will use content and methodological knowledge about the use of newer ethical and cultural concepts for solving ethical problems and ethical decision-making (PILO 3a), 5. The student will use knowledge and skills for complex analysis and critical assessment of individual ethical solutions, their application in practice and comprehensive presentation of their results (PILO 2c, PILO 4b), 6. The student will use knowledge and skills for organizing responsible and ethical independent work and work in a group (as a leader or member) and developing appropriate communication and digital skills for effective presentation of the results of work ethics (PILO 3c), 7. The student will use knowledge and skills for analysis and synthesis of the use of digitalization, automation, robotization and artificial intelligence in addressing ethical and cultural issues and critically assessing the results of their application in practice (PILO 3a) and 8. The student will use knowledge and skills for comprehensive ethical, socially responsible and sustainable resolution of complex practical problems in modern organizations (PILO 4b, PILO 4c). The PILO label (i.e., Programme Intended Learning Outcomes) defines the contribution of each listed intended learning outcome of a course towards achieving the general and/or subject-specific competencies or learning outcomes acquired through the programme.
