Objectives and competences
Main course objective is to understand the complexity of functioning of governemnt in the field of public finance and acquire specific knowledge in the field of allocation, redistribution and stabilisation functions of public finance, optimal taxation, effects of public finance measures on economy, effects of public finance measures on long term sustainability of public finance and the role of fiscal instruments in environmental protection.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
In this course students:
1.Systematically enhance their knowledge of public finances and fiscal functions (PILO 2a).
2. Critically analyse complex, incomplete and contradictory views on fiscal issues and understandably explain the results of their critical analysis (PILO 2b, PILO 2c).
3.Acquire the ability to search for and synthesize new information and data from the fiscal position and to place them in an appropriate professional framework (PILO 3a).
4.Are aware of the ethical and professional responsibility of fiscal decision-makers (PILO 4a).
5.Critically assess the sustainable and social impact of public finances (PILO 4b).
The PILO label (i.e., Programme Intended Learning Outcomes) defines the contribution of each listed intended learning outcome of a course towards achieving the general and/or subject-specific competencies or learning outcomes acquired through the programme.

Seminar work
Written exam or midterm tests - written exam or two midterm tests covering all major thematic areas. The student must score at least 56% of the points in both tests in total, and at least 45% of the points of that test in each individual test.
Seminar work - writing an individual seminar paper and oral presentation.
