Objectives and competences

Main course objective is to understand the complexity of functioning of banks and acquire specific knowledge in the field of current trends in banking , changes in the field of banking regulatives, concepts of measuring bank performance, credit policy management, Investment policy management, liquidity management, reserves management and financing decisions management.

Content (Syllabus outline)

1. Comparative banking markets and structural trends of various banking systems 2. Bank regulation and supervision 3. Microprudential supervision in the EU and Banking Union: Single Supervisiory Mechanism and Single Resolution Mechanism 4. Macroprudential supervision and macroprudential instruments 5. Deposit guarantee scheme and European Deposit Insurance Scheme 6. Liquidity and reserves management 7. Management of interest and non-interest income 8. Bank performance and financial ratio analysis 9. Competition on the banking market 10. Transformation of banking (e.g. FinTech, digitalisation, the emergence of non-bank providers, sustainable banking and green finance)

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Development of knowledge and understanding Students: • Knowledge base: has depth and systematic understanding of knowledge in the area of banking and can work with theoretical and research-based knowledge at the forefront of their academic discipline. • Ethical issues: has the awareness and ability to manage the implications of ethical dilemmas and work pro-actively with others to formulate solutions • Disciplinary methodologies: has a comprehensive understanding of basic techniques of analysis in the field of bank management. Cognitive/Intellectual skills: • Analysis: with critical awareness can undertake analysis of complex, incomplete or contradictory areas of knowledge communicating the outcome effectively • Synthesis: with critical awareness, can synthesise information, utilising knowledge or processes from the forefront of the discipline / practice • Evaluation: has a level of conceptual understanding that will allow her/him critically to evaluate research in the field of banking. • Application: can demonstrate initiative in problem solving. Can act autonomously in planning and implementing tasks at a professional or equivalent level, making decisions in complex situations
