Objectives and competences

The student will conduct an independent in-depth research on a selected economic or business problem, using theoretical knowledge and a methodologically sound approach. The aim is to develop the ability to conduct theoretically and empirically based research in the field of study and to independently search for expert sources. The student will also develop the ability to independently analyse, solve and argue complex professional problems and to publish the results of the research.

Content (Syllabus outline)

- students are expected to participate in the thesis seminars in their major; - selection of appropriate thesis topics; - definition of research questions for research problem determination; - information sources search strategy and skimming of relevant literature; - exploratory research for master thesis topic plan application (selection of topics, research problem and hypotheses, research goals and methodology, literature); - individual/group guiding by the thesis advisor; - research implementation, analysis of gathered data and research synthesis; - techniques of professional research text writing and preparation, text preparation and editing; - defence preparation and thesis defence.

Learning and teaching methods

- adviser guidance; - independent research; - public thesis defence.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

The intended study results of the master's thesis are: 1) Students demonstrate the necessary theoretical and methodological knowledge for designing and conducting applied research in economic/business sciences when choosing a topic, preparing a disposition and creating a master thesis (PILO 1a) 2) Students integrate the necessary theoretical and methodological knowledge to deal with specific situations in field of their specialization (PILO 2a) 3)They acquire knowledge and skills for thesis' problem-solving research based on using knowledge, situations and consideration of selected master thesis problem in international context (PILO 2b) 4) Students develop knowledge and skills for original design, research and critical evaluation of the chosen work or study context, which is complex, unpredictable and requires new strategic approaches in the master thesis work in the field of their specialization (PILO 2c) 5) They acquire knowledge and skills for thesis' problem-solving research based on using contemporary digital and with AI supported methods, tools, and technologies (PILO 3a) 6) Development of knowledge and skills of students to take responsibility for contribution to professional knowledge and practices in their thesis (PILO 3a, PILO 4a) 7) Development of students' knowledge and skills for understanding, developing and evaluating ethical, sustainable and responsible solutions in master thesis (PILO 4b, PILO 4c) 8) Development of professional competencies and skills for the preparation of a research-oriented master's thesis (mastering the systematic search for information and sources; applying appropriate methodology, mastering the technique of professional writing; the ability to find suitable solutions to research problems; the ability to critically assess the situation, analyze the problem and synthesize solutions) (PILO 2c, PILO 3a) 9) Knowledge, skills and competences for effective preparation of the master's thesis presentation (PILO 3a) 10) Knowledge, skills and competences for effective presentation and defense of the master's thesis (PILO 3b, PILO 4c) The PILO label (i.e., Programme Intended Learning Outcomes) defines the contribution of each listed intended learning outcome of a course towards achieving the general and/or subject-specific competencies or learning outcomes acquired through the programme.
