Objectives and competences

Students are able to distinguish and analyse IT management concepts and methods. They are able to apply appropriate informatics management tools.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Course consists of following topics: paradigms of information systems management, theories of strategic information systems planning, management of IT/IS projects portfolios, organizing IT/IS units, operational issues of IT/IS units, monitoring IT/IS units, measuring effects/results of IT/IS units and projects, IT investments, security management, outsourcing and insourcing of IT/IS resources. Seminar on functionalities and practical use of Microsoft 365 Project (or related tool).

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Students in this course: 1. Recall the concepts of information management. 2. systematically build on their knowledge of IT management methods (PILO 2a, PILO 3b) 3. train in the use of project management methods (Prince II and related (PILO 2a, PILO 3a)) 4. be trained in the use of information security approaches and methods (PILO 2a, PILO 3a) 5. be able to select and apply established concepts in the field of IT management (ITIL, Cobit and related) (PILO 2a, PILO 3a) 6. gain practical experience in the use of project management tools (PILO 3b, PILO 3c) 7. be aware of the ethical and sustainability aspects of e-business (PILO 4a, PILO 4c) The PILO label (i.e., Programme Intended Learning Outcomes) defines the contribution of each listed intended learning outcome of a course towards achieving the general and/or subject-specific competencies or learning outcomes acquired through the programme.
