Objectives and competences

In this course students: 1. Are familiarised with the basic terminology used in various fields of economics and business. 2. Develop specific listening, speaking, reading and writing skills through simple business texts. 3. Develop specific business communication skills (can introduce him/herself, talk about the company, his/her job) in every-day and professional situations. 4. Develop positive attitude and tolerance towards cultural differences and speakers of foreign languages.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Various general and business topics are studies in order to achieve basic language confidence in different business situations (i.e. can introduce him/herself, talk about the company, his/her job, can interact in a simple way provided that the other person talks slowly and clearly in a foreign language).

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Development of knowledge and understanding: Students: 1. Learn to write, think and express themselves in German in the field of economics and business. 2. Are able to make business conversation on the phone at basic level. 3. Are able to write business letters/e-mail messages in German at basic level

Cognitive/Intellectual skills: Students: 1. Can collect and arrange data and ideas. 2. Demonstrate individual qualities such as responsibility, integrity and respect for self and others. 3. Students develop greater independence of thought and the ability to solve problems. 4. Students work effectively with others, and contribute to group efforts by sharing ideas. Key/Transferable skills Students: 1. Use ICT. 2. Develop skills for time management and work to deadlines. 3. Develop professional ethics. 4. Develop learning techniques and strategies for individual study, permanent reflection and evaluation. 5. Develop interest for lifelong learning. Practical skills: Students: 1. Are capable of effective and appropriate written and oral communication in German within various international business situations. 2. Use online dictionaries and other language tools with some guidance.
