Objectives and competences

In this course students: 1. Learn about the basic elements of the concept of sustainable development and sustainable business and links between them. 2. Learn about the importance of sustainable development for enterprises and other organizations. 3. Learn about and understand the concepts in the field of sustainable development in relation to economic activity. 4. Learn about the links between the environment and business and the importance of sustainable development. 5. Learn about the effects of business activity on the environment and society. 6. Adopt basic knowledge in solving problems of enterprises from sustainability point of view.

Module 1: Introduction to sustainable business and global challenges • Foundations of sustainable business • Sustainable Development Goals • Adaptation to climate change Module 2: Sustainability of resources and ecosystem services • Sustainable management of natural resources • Diversity of ecosystem services for the economy • Valuation and protection of ecosystems Module 3: Issues of public goods and externalities • Understanding public goods • Externalities and their solution Module 4: Digitisation, innovation and sustainability • The impact of digitalisation on sustainability • Technologies and innovation for sustainability • Sustainable business models Module 5: Sustainability and Entrepreneurship • Sustainable entrepreneurship • Corporate Social Responsibility • Social Entrepreneurship • Sustainable environmental strategies and circular models Module 6: Implementation, sustainability measurement and regulatory framework • Measuring sustainability performance • Challenges and barriers to implementation • International and national sustainability regulations • Sustainability standards and certificates

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Development of knowledge and understanding: Students: 1. Understand basic concepts of sustainable development from businesses point of view. 2. Understand impacts and conseequences of companies on the environment. 3. Recognize basic concepts of sustainable development, corporate social responsibility, social, environmental and sustainable entrepreneurship. 4. Are aware of challenges of sustainable development and sustainable business in opposite to classic (for profit oriented) economic behaviour of companies. Cognitive/Intellectual skills: Students: 1. Can analyse basic sustainability issues with guidance using given classification/principles. 2. Can collect and arrange data and ideas in a standard way. 3. Students develop greater independence of thought and the ability to solve problems.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

Key/Transferable skills: 1. Use ICT. 2. Develop skills for team work. 3. Develop professional ethics. 4. Develop learning techniques and strategies for individual study, permanent reflection and evaluation. Practical skills: 1. Based on defined guidelines and under supervision are able to autonomously solve environmental and sustainable problems in companies.
