Objectives and competences

In this course, the students: 1. Get the basic grasp of civil transportation, tour-operator business and destination management; 2. Get familiar with basic elements of civil transportation marketing and are aware of the interdependence between them and the destination management; 3. Get familiar with the wider frame of tour-operator business, including tourism psychology and sociology; 4. Are familiarised with and grasp the basic concepts of different typers of tourism agencies (travel agency, tour-operator…)

Content (Syllabus outline)

Notions travel and vacation Components for travel – means of transportation • Land transport • Air transport (national and low-cost carriers, other air transportation means) • Rail transportation (railways, underground, cableways) Wider travel frame • Tourism psychology • Tourism sociology Kinds of travel agencies (TO, TA) and their tasks • Outgoing • Incoming • Local • Specialised Conceptualising and managing a travel • Tourism market research (fairs, competition, long term trends, own clientele) • Preparing a travel (itinerary) (economic, social, didactical, psychological, geographical etc.) points of view of a travel • Catalogue • Tourist guides (knowledge required for the exam by the Slovene Chamber of commerce) • Post-sale agent’s activities Transferable/key skills and other attributes: The students learn how to prepare an itinerary.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Development of knowledge and understanding of students: 1. Understanding basics of tour operator’s job and destination management; 2. Learn to use different contents in solving problems in the fields of civil transportation and destination management; 3. Understand basic characteristics of networking and cooperation between different kinds of tourism services providers (hotel, travel agency, transportation enterprise, destination); 4. Can demonstrate awareness of ethical issues in the field of responsible destination management (social, environmental, and economic impacts).

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

Cognitive/Intellectual skills: Students: 1. Are able to complete – under guidance – an analyses using given classification/principles; 2. Can collect and arrange data and ideas in a standard way; 3. Can evaluate the reliability of data using defined techniques and under guidance. 4. understand the meaning and can responsibly employ peer reviewing; 5. Develop into independently thinking and problem solving-oriented individuals. Key/Transferable skills Students: 1. Use ICT. 2. Develop skills for team work. 3. Develop professional ethics. 4. Establish international relations. 5. Develop learning techniques and strategies for individual study, permanent reflection and evaluation. 6. Develop interest for lifelong learning. Practical skills: Students are trained in basic touroperator business and are able to complete a travel itinerary, including the calculation.
