Objectives and competences
Students at this course: 1) Acquire the knowledge of the relevanc of space and distances on the business decisions of enterpreneurs and consumers; 2) Upgrade the basic knowledge of integration and development of Slovenian economy in the EU from the view of regions,municipalities and cities; 3) Get familiar with the tools of analysis in the regional and urban economics and qualify for their application in concrete business decisions of enterprises, individuals and concipation of public policy decisions; 4) Acquire economic reasoning of the basic problems facing cities and regions (externalities, trafic, housing)
Content (Syllabus outline)
1. Relevance of regions, municipalities and cities in economy
2. Integration of Slovenian economy and regions in the EU
3. Regional policy
4. Development of cities (emergence of cities, size of cities and their economic strength, economic growth of cities)
5. Use of land in cities
6. The main urban problems of urban areas (housing, transport, externalities, education issues, criminal)
7. Local authorities and public policy

Students:
- Have comprehensive and systematic knowledge of development and integration of Slovenian regions and cities in the Slovenian and European space.
- Understand the economic factors of spatial decisions of enterprises and individuals.
- Are familiar with and understand the present problems of urban and regional development.
- Are familiar with and qualified for the application of specific theories and tools of analysis in the urban and regional economics.
