Objectives and competences

Objectives: In-depth knowledge acquisition of basic measurements of physical quantities and measuring instrumentation. Competences: Ability to connect practical measurements of physical quantities with theoretical backgrounds and the ability to place them in different contexts for use and upgrade in further education and work environments.

Content (Syllabus outline)

• introduction to measurement technics • measurement units and system SI • references and etalons • measurement errors and measurement uncertainty • harmonic components and distortions • measurement instruments and methods • measurements of electrical quantities • measurements of non-electrical quantities • virtual instrumentation

Learning and teaching methods

Lectures: in the lectures, the student learns the theoretical content of the course. Tutorials: in the tutorials, the student consolidates theoretical knowledge and learns about application possibilities.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Knowledge and understanding: After the completion of this course, the student will be able to: 1. present units of measurement with the SI system, measurement uncertainties related to measurement errors 2. present methods of measurement and physical quantities in the energy sector 3. identify how safe work with measuring instrumentation is performed; 4. place measurement methods in different contexts 5. use measuring instruments and related equipment and connect them to different theoretical backgrounds and contexts 6. apply general and previous knowledge in measurements and measuring systems 7. use of learned material in new situations

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

Transferable/key competences and other abilities: 1. apply knowledge in the field of measurement technology in other courses of this study program, in further education and in work environments 2. based on in-depth knowledge, more effectively connect the acquired knowledge with previously acquired knowledge
