Objectives and competences

Objectives: Students get acquainted: • with the legislation, standards and normatives from the field of environment protection; • with methods of purification of water and gases; • with mechanical-biological treatment of solid waste; • with environmental protection procedures and evaluation of costs for treatment and disposal of different type of waste. • with the impact of various electricity production technologies on the environment Competences: Students recognize, understand and are aware of environmental protection in general; • they understand the specifics in the field of energy technology; • know how to define and evaluate waste management procedures.:

Content (Syllabus outline)

• General concepts and basics in the field of environmental protection. • Review of legislation on environmental protection • Wastewater: Classification of wastewater from energy processes. Processes of purifying and recycling the wastewater. • Polluted air: The chemical composition of gaseous and solid harmful and toxic substances in flue gases. Flue gas cleaning procedures. • Solid waste: Waste disposal site, waste incineration, composting organic waste, generation of biogas and energy production from biomass. • Electricity production and impact on the environment • Noise • Economics and economic comparison of processes of environmental protection processes.

Knowledge and understanding: • Technological procedures for environmental protection: soil, water, air and noise protection. • Electricity production and environmental impact. • Knowledge of legal regulations, standards and norms; • Define the economics of waste management and disposal costs.

Transferable/key competences and other abilities: • Solving professional problems in the energy field. • Writing reports in accordance with professional standards. • Successful work on environmental protection development research projects.
