Objectives and competences

The objective of this course is to give knowledge and comprehension about procedures for project planning, tracking, monitoring and closure of SW development projects. The student gets familiar and applies methods and tools for support of a specific area in project management (like risk management methods in SW development projects). In the final phase the student evaluates the suitability of applied methods.

Content (Syllabus outline)

• Definition of project and project management. • Comprehension of following areas: information systems development project planning and tracking: content of work (WBS, products), activities (description, types of relationships among activities, dependency on development methodology), assessment of effort and related models (functional points, mathematical models), human resources (organization of project groups, responsibilities, assignments, effort), scheduling (phases, milestones, critical path), management of finances (assessment of costs, dynamic of financing, financial status of the project), risk management (identification, methods for risk management, analysis, actions, evaluation of efficiency of risk management actions), project documentation(organization, configuration management), communication in project, quality management, monitoring of project, development of project plan. • Application of methodologies for project management (PMBOK, PRINCE2, relationship between project management and SW development). • Analysis and tracking of projects. • Developement of a project plan. • Project closure, post-project activities and evaluation of success.

• Communication skills: verbal (oral exam), written (seminar work) including description of problematic, presentation and interpretation of seminar work. • Use of information technology: usage of supporting tools and methods and evaluation of their suitability. • Organization skills: project management, project planning, project tracking. • Calculation skills: calculating and evaluating project resources availability. • Problem solving: risk analysis and risk management. • Working in a group: working in small groups at the lab work.
