Objectives and competences

The objective of this course for students is to be bale to analyze the role of the media and mass communication in social development and to design new approaches in studying.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Media, political communications, social instituitions, public, citizen. Theory approaches to audience activity. Ideology in social communication. Media institution in global social development. Political communication in local and global environment. Identity: gender, sexuality, race and national identity. Social groups: depriviled social groups. Social responsibility in media. Ethical dilemas in media. Technology and globalisation.

Lectures, seminar, individual work, project.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

On completion of this course the student will be able to • explain knowledge and understanding of basic political institutions and role of the media, • recognize key aims in political communication, • analyze media in relation to social responsibility, • compare and critically reflect theoretical approaches to mass media • design new approcahes in studying media role.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

Communication skills: oral seminar defense, manner of expression at written and oral examination. Organisation skills: organisation and preparation of plan for the implementation of the project. Working in a group: team work in the project.
