Objectives and competences
1. Getting to know dialects as a special system of the Slovene language.
2. Recognizing their prosodic, phonetic, morphological and syntactic image.
3. Adopting the contemporary national transcription for writing dialectal texts.
Content (Syllabus outline)
1. Getting to know fundamental characteristics of dialectal groups on all of the language levels in relation to the Slovene standard language
2. Getting to know accentual image of the Slovene dialects (tonemic, non-tonemic), specifics of dialectal speech sounds, verb form and morphological morphemes, narrower dialectal lexica.
3 Expanding the knowledge with the seminar paper in which students analyze a text in dialect (they will record and write it themselves).

Lectures, work with text method, method of work with audio and video recordings, method of field survey.
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
Students:
– are able to identify dialects as a special system of the Slovene language;
– understand and recognize the oldest phonetic, quantitive, qualitative and intonation changes from the beginnings of the Slovene language to present;
– are capable of analyzing dialects at all language levels;
– know how to transcribe dialectal texts;
– know how to synchronically describe and analyze their own dialect.
Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes
Beside theoretical knowledge students are familiar with the method of field interview; they can transcribe and analyze the data gathered.
