Objectives and competences
The objective of this course is to give knowledge on strategies and techniques for simultaneous and consecutive interpreting, improve note-taking techniques, broaden listening skills and rhetorical competences for texts at an advanced level, give knowledge necessary for simultaneous, consecutive and whispered interpreting of texts at a advanced level, i.e. politics, economy and the EU, acquaint with the preparation for a conference with or without prior documentation, preparation of glossaries and give knowledge on Code of ethics and professional standards.

Content (Syllabus outline)
• Interpreting competences: strategies and techniques for simultaneous and consecutive interpreting.
• Interpreting: simultaneous and consecutive interpreting of texts at an advanced level from Slovene to German and German to Slovene in different subject areas, i.e. politics, economy and the EU.
• Whispered interpreting: whispered interpreting of texts at an advanced level from Slovene to German and German to Slovene.
• Speaking skills: improvement of speaking skills in Slovene and German.
• Terminology: preparation of terminology according to discussed specialised options.
• Preparation: preparation strategies for a conference with or without prior documentation.
• Terminology: preparation of terminology for the interpreted subject area, glossaries, parallel text search.
• Conference simulation: conference simulation in different option, i.e. politics, economy and the EU.
• Code of Ethics and professional standards.
• Technologies and interpreting platforms.
• Computer-aided interpreting (e.g. Interpretbank).
• Collaborative workspace (shared terminology collection and related texts).

• student knows how to prepare for a conference;
• student knows how to prepare a glossary with or without prior documentation;

Prerequisits
• Final exam can be taken after passing Simultaneous and Consecutive Interpreting II – German.
