Objectives and competences
The objective of this course is to give knowledge on strategies for simultaneous and consecutive interpreting, broaden listening skills and rhetorical competences for specialised texts, give knowledge necessary for simultaneous, consecutive and whispered interpreting of specialised texts, acquaint students with the preparation for a specialised conference with or without prior documentation and give knowledge on Slovene and international professional organisations for conference interpreters, job opportunities in Slovenia and abroad.

Content (Syllabus outline)
• Interpreting competences: advanced strategies for simultaneous and consecutive interpreting.
• Simultaneous interpreting: simultaneous interpreting of texts at an advanced level and specialised texts from Slovene to German and German to Slovene.
• Consecutive interpreting: consecutive interpreting of texts at an advanced level and specialised texts from Slovene to German and german to Slovene.
• Preparation: preparation for a conference in a specialised option with or without previously available materials.
• Terminology: preparation of terminology for the interpreted subject area, glossaries, parallel text search.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
• student knows how to do simultaneous, consecutive and whispered interpreting of specialised texts;
• student understands basics in different specialised options in a short time;
• student knows how to prepare for a conference and prepare a glossary with or without previously available materials;
• student knows how to recapitulate the most important Slovene and international professional organisations for conference interpreters.

Prerequisits
• Students can earn part of the credits for the course through international student exchange or work placement programs.
• Final exam can be taken after passing Simultaneous and Consecutive Interpreting III – German.
