Objectives and competences

• The objectives of this course are: • to consolidate, revise and expand students’ existing knowledge of the English grammar and vocabulary on an advanced/proficient level, • to develop the ability of the students to understand different English speakers and texts in a variety of contexts at an advanced/proficient level, • to systematically build vocabulary, • to develop the ability of the students to understand and analyse a variety of texts in English, while mastering the use of grammar and vocabulary (e.g. tenses and verbs, collocations and idioms) through their use, • to encourage critical thinking and interpretation through the analysis of texts, • to evaluate the credibility of sources and arguments presented in them, • to encourage active participation in discussions in the English language, • to encourage deriving to conclusions from given texts and the justification of argumented decisions, • to encourage evaluation – judging ideas, texts, etc. according to criteria and arguments; encourage judgment about appropriateness, relevance and reliability of data; • to encourage recognizing prejudices.

Content (Syllabus outline)

• Consolidation of the acquired grammar and vocabulary based on selected English text samples of advanced difficulty, • further development of language activities: reception (listening and reading), production (speaking and writing), and interaction (spoken and written) from Language Development 1, with emphasis on listening and speaking skills, • systematic acquisition of new vocabulary, • consolidation and further development of skills and knowledge acquired in other courses (cross-curricular links), • development of the ability to participate in critical discussions • intercultural awareness – building awareness and appreciation of the English speaking world • addressing the use of AI in lang. development; raising awareness of its dis/advantages; • engaging with topics relevant to AI; • engaging with topics related to green transition.

on completion of this course the student will be able to: • maintenance and improvement of language competence.

Prerequisits

Attendance of 80% at contact hours and completed coursework are required for taking the exam.
