Objectives and competences
The objective of this course is
• to consolidate, revise and expand students’ existing knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary on the basic level,
• to develop the ability of the students to understand different English speakers and texts in a variety of contexts,
• to systematically build vocabulary.
Content (Syllabus outline)
• English Grammar: basic grammar theories and terminology, revision and consolidation of acquired knowledge.
• Exercises and activities for the development of listening, speaking, writing and reading skills.
• Acquisition of new vocabulary.
• Building awareness and appreciation of the English-speaking world.
The content of the course will be adjusted and the classes internally differentiated where necessary to meet the needs of the learners.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
on completion of this course the students will be able to:
• use English grammar and vocabulary,
• analyse grammatical elements on the sentence and parts-of-speech levels,
• use grammar textbooks and other resources and technical literature,
• understand demanding listening texts in English.
Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes
• ability to work in pairs and groups,
• recognition of the need and willingness to continually develop existing skills and knowledge due to the ever-changing nature of language,
• ability to become an autonomous learner,
• ability to analyze and bring together ideas,

The reading list will be adapted to the needs and level of the students.
Prerequisits
Attendance of 80% and regular completion of coursework are required for taking the exam.
Additional information on implementation and assessment • exam, - 70 %
• active participation (80% attendance), - 10 %
• homework assignments.- 20 %
A passing grade on the written exam is required for a passing final grade.
