Objectives and competences

·Enriched knowledge of certain aspects of the English language relevant to future teachers · Systematic building of student's existing knowledge of vocabulary and grammar · Consolidation and development of reading, writing, listening, speaking skills · Development of classroom English and strategies for classroom work and use. · Understanding of digital technologies and tools and how they may be applied in their academic and professional lives · Increased awareness of the culture of Englishspeaking countries

Content (Syllabus outline)

· Students will focus on aspects of English particularly interesting to future teachers. · Through the exploration of a variety of topics connected to the English speaking world, students will develop and practise their knowledge of English, which helps future teachers to become more self-confident users of English in a classroom. · Students will also develop and practise their knowledge of classroom English, learning how to manage a class effectively (e.g. giving instructions, providing feedback, praising/critisising, asking for clarification...) Students will critically engage with digital literacy as a theoretical and practical construct. · The analysis of selected texts will also enable students to enhance their language skills (enriching their vocabulary and developing their existing knowledge of grammar) through the variety of update tasks and exercises (e.g. datadriven exercises based on English corpus) with the emphasis placed on authentic language in use.

Prerequisits

Attendance of 80% and regular completion of coursework are required for taking the exam.
