Objectives and competences
Students will consolidate and expand their knowledge of English grammar and apply it when dealing with medium-difficulty texts, giving particular attention to the needs of language professionals. They will develop communicative activities and strategies, with a particular focus on written and reading skills. They will systematically expand their vocabulary and use it appropriately in both professional and general contexts, with an emphasis on the (la language technology) needs of future language professionals.
Content (Syllabus outline)
• English Grammar: Basic grammar theories and terminologyr; review and further development of acquired linguistic knowledge through contrastive analysis.
• Consolidation of acquired grammatical knowledge using selected medium-difficulty texts (literary, non-literary, etc.) for the puroses of future language professionals
• Strengthening of communicative language activities (reception, production, interaction, mediation) and further development of communicative language strategies, with a focus on writing and reading
• Targeted vocabulary development
• Developing basic technology skills for working with languages at a high functional level.
• English Language – Introduction to English Linguistics (cross-curricular links)

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
on completion of this course the students will be able to:
• use of English grammar, spelling, and other rules correctly,
• use grammar textbooks, other resources and literature,
• analyse grammatical elements on different levels,
• report more effectively in writing and understand texts more proficiently through listening,
• use their existing vocabulary
• use dictionaries and other (technolocial) resources
