Objectives and competences

Students will consolidate and enhance their knowledge of English grammar by engaging with more complex texts. They will develop communicative activities and strategies, with a focus on listening and speaking skills. Special attention will be given to the targeted acquisition and use of vocabulary in both professional and general contexts, with an emphasis on the (la language technology) needs of future language professionals.

Content (Syllabus outline)

• Consolidation of acquired grammatical knowledge using selected more complex texts (literary, non-literary, etc.) • Strengthening communicative language activities (reception, production, interaction, mediation) and further developing communicative language strategies for the puroses of future language professionals, as a continuation of Language Development 1 classes, with a focus on listening and speaking. • Targeted vocabulary acquisition • Further development of basic technology skills for working with languages at a high functional level. • English Language - Morphology (cross-curricular links).

• exercises, • text-based work, • oral presentations, • discussion/debate, • homework assignments (self-study).

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

on completion of this course the student will be able to: • use English grammar correctly while translating and in other communicative situations, • communicate effectively in spoken English and comprehend spoken English accurately. • use their existing vocabulary • use dictionaries and other (technological) resources

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

• ablity to use source and target languages at a high functional level • ability to work in pairs and groups, • ability to use up-to-date sources of information and technology, • recognition of the need and willingness to continually develop existing skills and knowledge due to the ever changing nature of language, • ability to become an autonomous learner, • ability to independently develop research strategies and problem solving techniques, • ability to analyze and bring together ideas, ability to work in a multilingual and multicultural environment.

Prerequisites for enrollment in the course: None. Prerequisites for successful completion of the course: Before taking the end-term test, students have to fulfil all other individual requirements listed in the Assessment box .
