Objectives and competences

The aim of this subject is to - acquaint students with the orthographic rules of German, - mediate knowledge about the thematised problematic fields of German orthography - develop adequate orthographic competence in German language

Content (Syllabus outline)

The subject systematically gives the rules of German spelling. The emphasis is on the following contents: • The understanding of mutual dependence between the quality of vowels and orthographic rules • The usage of punctuation marks, especially in simple dependent clauses • The identification and determination of syllables, utterance of syllables and division of words • The record of foreign words • The record of words with the same sonic and/or written image in correlation with their meaning • The usage of orthographic dictionary

- conversation, - debate, - reporting, - resentation, - individual work,pair work or group work, - homework, - learning by doing, - problem solving, - e-learning.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

On completion of this course the student will be able to • understand and use punctuation marks in written communication in German language; • analyze and make the difference between the uttered and written; • analyze and compare the structure of certain texts using the orthographic dictionary and other appropriate multimedia resources and ICT in written communication; • communicate and participate in forums and e-classrooms on topic of German orthography; • syllable and correctly divide words; • correctly write foreign words.

Transferable/Key Skills and other attributes: • communicative skills (written), • using of information technology, • solving language problems.

Prerequisits for acceding the course: None. Conditions for prerequisits: Completed writing assignments are a prerequisit for accession to the written examination.
